Sept 21st EGLE Permitting - St Ignace

This course provides an overview of Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) water resource permitting requirements as they relate to forestry and logging activities. Participants will learn how to identify regulated water resources including wetlands, inland lakes and streams, and floodplains. Participants will be able to understand when permits, exemptions, or best management practices apply. The training covers the Joint Permit Application process, general and minor permit categories, stream crossing design fundamentals, measurement techniques (bankfull width and ordinary high-water mark), mitigation and restoration considerations, and common application mistakes. Emphasis is placed on minimizing environmental impacts, maintaining compliance with Parts 301, 303, and 31 of Michigan’s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (NREPA), and effectively coordinating with EGLE staff to streamline project approvals. In addition to these materials, participants will also learn about current Michigan Master Logger programs relating to proper BMP use and a new portable bridge/timber mat rental program. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided to participants.
